Old Key comics had such elaborately painted covers back in the day. This one features The Fabulous Samson, the ever-fashionable defender of a post-apocalyptic world. His pink fur tunic and matching eye patch are obviously striking fear into this soon-to-be-dinner adversary. I can just hear him shouting “Red is the new dead, you beast!” This groundbreaking comic was discovered at the Braddy Book Store in Boston, MA.
Did he skin Snagglepuss?
July 28th, 2010A Different Nursery Rhyme
July 26th, 2010This vintage wind-up musical television tells the story of Richard Nixon’s “great fall” in lenticular animated style! Infants and toddlers could learn a valuable lesson from this little gem, while little girls could fawn over Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman to their heart’s content. I think they should have made a tape recorder instead, don’t you? Found at the Baxter rummage sale in Sharpsburg, KY.
For Preschool Carnivores..
July 23rd, 2010They could have called this an “Eat ‘n Say”! Nonetheless, it’s important for youngsters to learn where delicious meats come from, and this toy was their ticket to knowledge. Just point the arrow and pull the string.. Well, actually, we don’t know what sounds it made, as this one is broken. Was it the sound of a sizzling grill, the grinding of a meat saw through bones, or just the sounds of the animals meeting their demise at the slaughterhouse? Whichever it is, if you’re still hungry after learning the truth about meat, then congratulations! You’re officially a carnivore. And yes, we noticed they left out venison. Found at the Stop ‘n Swap Flea Market in Yuma, AZ.
So, what are you wearing? Saddle Oxfords? Hot.

I love educational toys that teach kids skills which can lead to gainful employment. With this playset young ladies could learn a job that’s been around almost as long as telephones, and has turned into a million dollar industry. Isn’t capitalism great? Found at the Goodspirit Donation Center in Silverton, OR.
I’ll Never Eat Turkey Breast Again
July 19th, 2010We don’t usually journey into reality on a Monday, but this real kitchen item just had to be acknowledged. It actually looks pretty useful, and since it actually “hooks” a turkey, even the title is a very logical and acceptable pun. But, the image it conjures should have been left to the imagination. Perhaps they could advertise the package as being a diet aid as well. It sure killed my appetite.
A Little Tay to Start Your Day
July 16th, 2010Internet sensation Tay Zonday had a fairly profitable “15 minutes” a couple of years ago, but it didn’t last long enough to cash in on this idea. This prototype chocolate milk mix can was destined to contain his own special recipe, but alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Perhaps it was because Chocolate Rain’s baffling and confusing lyrics never really defined what it meant, and people didn’t want to drink whatever it was. This morning beverage wannabe comes to us from a private collector in Bancroft, ID.
Ghostfacers!
July 15th, 2010Patrick Doody, co-producer and co-director of the WB Series “Ghostfacers”, posted this on our Facebook page:
“You inspired me to design something for my show’s Emmy campaign – sadly, we didn’t get nominated, however – it was a big hit with our fans. I wish it was real!”

We’re elated to have inspired this campaign, and we encourage everyone to watch the series, it’s a lot of fun! Thanks, Patrick!
Don’t be Sure, be Positive!
July 14th, 2010Avon produced a lot of collectible bottles for their cologne back in the day, but this one is among the oddest. Apart from its size, it looks like a genuine Duracell battery, but pop the copper top off and there you have a manly (as determined by Avon R&D) fragrance. Was it the scent of hydrochloric acid? Or burning plastic? No, sadly, the Avon bottles had more personality than the fragrances did back then. Found at the Merchants Outlet Mall in Evansville, IN.
Very Metal
July 12th, 2010Way before South Park, the Brits brought irreverent comedy to America (via MTV) in the story of four flat mates with nothing in common called The Young Ones. If this item had gone past the prototype stage, I know someone who would have killed Santa Claus to get it. We loved the show back in the 80’s, but because of the lack of merchandise our only means of expression were our home-made Vyvyan denim jackets and t-shirts that read “Vegetable Rights and Peace”. This item was received as a wedding gift by a couple in Decatur, IL.
You’re Asking For it, Little Mister!
July 9th, 2010It’s a terrible paradox: kids love to make noise, while adults find it unbearably annoying to the point of pulling out one’s own hair. This Little Goldie Book teaches kids about understanding when mommy and daddy have had it “up to here” and just need to sit down with a martini and relax. Childhood sure can be confusing! Found at Addy’s Pawn in Lockwood, MT.
